What would be included in a routine dental consultation?
Oral prophylaxis: Removing the adhered plaque and tartar from the teeth and tooth roots is highly essential in preventing cavities and oral conditions like gingivitis, periodontitis, halitosis, etc. We perform oral cleaning by scaling and root planing, which are done using an ultrasonic hand-held scaling device. It has a thin metal tip that vibrates at ultrasonic frequencies, which help to dislodge the tartar deposits. The removed debris is washed away using a jet of water. Root planing involves inserting the scaling tip between the gums and tooth roots, which could be painful. Hence, we will administer local anesthesia before commencing the procedure.
Gum evaluation: The gums are just as important as the teeth when it comes to maintaining a healthy and aesthetically pleasing mouth. We will look into the condition of the gums and check for the onset of an infection. Suppose we suspect gum diseases such as gingivitis or periodontitis. In that case, we will prescribe suitable medication and treatment, which may involve removing adhered tartar, extracting the decayed tissues, placing medication in the gum pockets, etc.
Orthodontic treatment: The alignment of the teeth influences the beauty of your smile and the ease and effectiveness of cleaning the teeth. If you get dental braces, they will have to be monitored regularly and checked for tightness of the wires. This enables the braces to apply uniform pressure on the teeth. Also, the dentist will check if the treatment is going as planned, and if the teeth are being moved to their right positions.
Preventive treatment: Preventive dentistry aims to prevent dental infections and diseases even before they occur. Some of them are the salivary diagnosis, oral cancer treatment, cavity prevention, dental sealants, etc.
In addition to these, the dentist may also provide dental restorations and other standard services based on the requirement.
